There literally isn’t a website that is safe from the threat of hackers, even the ones you least expect to get hacker. Over 37 million registered users from the marital affair site Ashley Madison have had their personal information compromised by hackers.
According to Tech Crunch Brian Krebs was the first to report the news that The Impact Team published random user data from the marital affair site, according to the article. The data appears to have come directly from ALM, the company that runs Ashley Madison two other sites called Cougar Life and Established Men.
“They also appear to have gotten access to company servers and employee information, that includes details such as company bank account information and salaries,” reports Jon Russell of Tech Crunch.
“The Impact Team is threatening to release the full data set that it claims to have, unless Ashley Madison — which is one of the internet’s most notorious places to seek out an affair — is shut down.”
The hacking team is also using their latest triumph as a means to make some quick money offering to wipe user’s data for a small fee of $19, said Russell. The team is also threatening to release customers secret fantasies, nude photos and conversations matching credit car transactions, according to a message posted by Impact Team on the front page of Ashley Madison. It looks like a lot of marriages are at stake in this one.
“At this time, we have been able to secure our sites, and close the unauthorized access points,” said ALM in a statement regarding the hack, according to the article.
“We are working with law enforcement agencies, which are investigating this criminal act. Any and all parties responsible for this act of cyber–terrorism will be held responsible.”
