When clients are looking for web developers to bring their websites to life they don’t tend to check of the different skills that developers have. However, web developers might want to check up on their own skills and make sure they have at lest a few of the 11 tech skills that Skillcrush points out in their infographics.

“The skills you’ll need to land a job as a front-end web developer will vary from one place or one position to another, but there are several skills that are common to most web development jobs,” according to Melanie Pinola of Lifehacker.

The list of skills includes:

  • Photoshop/Illustrator
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • FTP
  • GIT/Github
  • Bug Testing
  • Media Queries
  • JQuery Plugins
  • Javascript
  • A Frontend Framework
  • WordPress

While skills like HTML, CSS, Javascript, WordPress and a few others on the list might be no-brainers there are a couple of aspects listed within each skill that developers might not want to overlook. If your company is hiring a developer these are also great grounds for interview questioning.

In terms of Photoshop and Illustrator, the infographic suggests being able to “pull out colors, understand layers, read dimensions interpret website and product mockups and wireframes you get from designers.” Some of these internal skills might be overlooked but they could be pretty crucial not only in the overall development of the site but in easing the process.

The infographic not only lists the skills but also suggests specific tasks you should be able to do to demonstrate those skills, such as resolving merge conflicts in Git/GitHub and testing for bugs across mobile devices,” according to Pinola.

“These might seem like rudimentary suggestions for you pros out there, but if you’re just starting out and don’t know what you don’t know, just give this a quick lookover.”

It never hurts to brush up on any of these skills and they could make all the difference when you’re going out for a job.
